First Day Digital Course Materials

First Day™ is Barnes & Noble College's inclusive access model, where digital course materials are included as an additional course charge for a particular course or program. This model is easy and convenient for student use, provides an affordable option, and supports student success by ensuring every student is prepared for the first day of class.

 

First Day™ course materials are digital versions of the physical textbook that may include additional educational resources such as workbooks, problem sets, tutorials, video, simulations, and interactive software. Digital textbooks have many features that allow you to interact with your course content like never before. Depending on the course materials used, features may include highlighting, annotation, search functions, and multimedia links. All First Day™ materials are easy to access through your Learning Management System.

 

Bookstore Purchase and Excess Financial Aid

 

Students are permitted to use an advance of any excess financial aid to purchase required books and supplies in the college bookstore for materials not already billed on your student account. The amount is based on your current semester enrollment. Book advances are available to you if you receive an offer from the NCC Financial Aid Team and have a total accepted award amount (excluding Federal Work Study) greater than your bill. You will need your NCC ID number to access these funds.  Students with excess financial aid should use their excess refund to purchase their books prior to their and materials during the first buying period to ensure they get what they need. 

 

The ability to purchase books with the excess refund is scheduled as follows:

Spring Regular and Spring Accelerated I:

  • January 2, 2025 through February 10, 2025 

    If a class starts on or before January 21, 2025, students who are using the book link with excess financial aid money need to buy the books and or material during the first book link buying period.  In person orders end February 11, 2025 and online orders end February 10, 2025.

Mid-Spring and Spring Accelerated II:

  • February 13, 2025 through March 14, 2025

    If a class starts after January 21, 2025, students who are using the book link with excess financial aid money need to buy the books and or material during the first book link buying period which is scheduled below.  In person orders end March 15, 2025, and online orders end March 14, 2025.
