Melissa Gogel
Melissa is a 21 year Police sergeant with the Allentown Police Department. Currently assigned to night shift patrol division. Previously, Melissa was assigned to the Crime Scene Unit for 5 years, Special Victims Unit for 3 years, as well as Vice & Intelligence and a strategic enforcement unit. Melissa holds an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice and another in Forensic Science from Forsyth Technical Community College, a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice from American Intercontinental University and a Master's Degree in Justice Studies with a concentration in cybersecurity from Southern New Hampshire University, which led her to complete a Master's certificate in Digital Forensics from DeSales University.
Melissa completed training in basic and advanced latent print examination with the Pennsylvania State Police and successfully achieved a certification in Latent Print examination from the International Association for Identification. Additionally, Melissa spent extensive time on the job working on latent print recovery techniques using chemical enhancement and lighting, leading to manyu case resolutions for the department. As part of her forensic curriculum, Melissa has received training in basic footwear and tire tread analysis, bloodstain pattern analysis, and trace evidence collection and processing. In 2006, Melissa co-taught DNA collection, preservation, and analysis as part of a continued Ed program with PRCPI.
