For students interested in a career in hotel, restaurant, or event management, Northampton Community College offers the opportunity to earn an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Event Management (HREM). Core courses in the program include meetings and events, menu planning, catering, front desk operations, accounting, marketing, and human resources. Students also gain experience in key areas such as customer service, revenue management, cultural awareness, and leadership.

Students will receive hands-on training through campus special events and partnerships with respected local hospitality venues, including restaurants, hotels, and event spaces.

The HREM program fosters teamwork, professionalism, and learning through real-world experiences. Classroom instruction is enhanced by field trips, guest speakers, and the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications. All students complete a 225-hour management practicum in their area of interest, giving them the chance to apply their skills and build professional connections.

Course credit or advanced placement options may be available for students from local high schools and vocational-technical schools. Additionally, NCC has transfer agreements with several colleges and universities for those who wish to pursue a four-year degree after graduation. Program faculty and college advisors are available to help students explore pathways to a successful career in the hotel, restaurant, and event industry.

Career Potential: Event Supervisor, Restaurant Operations Supervisor/Manager/Owner, Conference Services/ Banquet Supervisor/ Festival Operations, Meeting Coordinator, HR Assistant, Contract Food service supervisor/manager, Hotel front desk agent, several other hotel, restaurant, and event related entry-level positions.
