Overview
Narrative
As a graduate of Northampton's HVAC/R AAS program, you will have the qualifications needed to find employment in this highly technical field. Many of our graduates command above-average salaries as service and installation technicians with HVAC/R and mechanical contractors, or as maintenance technicians in commercial and industrial facilities.
Earning the associates degree also improves on opportunities for supervisory or ownership roles and provides a base for transfer towards a higher-level degree.
Features
Our program offers the unique opportunity to learn the concepts and service practices on components and equipment used in HVAC/R systems. You will also learn the proper methods of recovery and handling of refrigerants and be prepared to take the US Clean Air Act - Section 608 Technician Certification exam.
· Section 608 Technician Certification | US EPA
Coursework includes electrical theory, heating and cooling concepts, the refrigeration cycle, equipment operation and maintenance, component specification, whole system operation, system calculations, and diagnostic approaches. Progressive courses train in skills related to commercial AC and refrigeration, residential power wiring/NEC code, oil and gas-fired heating equipment, and air-to-air/geothermal heat pumps. Technical electives allow for exploration of knowledge in related fields.
Earning an associate's degree gives you an additional competitive edge, particularly if you are interested in growing into supervisory positions or company ownership. In addition, it can also be a step towards an advanced degree, such as a Bachelor of Science.
Transfer Information:
The program is eligible for the Bloomsburg partnership for their Bachelor of Applied Science in Technical Leadership which guarantees 60 credits of transfer for successfully completed AAS degrees.
The program is not specifically intended for transfer but is considered on a case-by-case basis by Pennsylvania College of Technology.
