Replacing the existing Design Project course with a dedicated Revit course provides students with essential, in-demand skills that are directly applicable to the modern workplace.

The previous Design Project course emphasized general design application but lacked focused instruction in BIM concepts, parametric modeling, and integrated project workflows. The Revit course will provide structured training in these areas, including 3D modeling, family creation, construction documentation, and interdisciplinary coordination.

This update strengthens the overall software progression within the CAD program—from 2D drafting and 3D modeling to BIM integration—ensuring graduates are prepared for both entry-level employment and transfer opportunities in architecture, construction, and engineering-related fields. The change also reflects recommendations from program advisory committee members and local industry partners who identified Revit proficiency as a critical skill for employability.
