Description

This course introduces students to the behavioral health and human services field, emphasizing professional roles, ethical foundations, trauma-informed approaches, and the importance of self-care in sustaining effective helping practice. Students explore confidentiality and privacy laws, mandated reporting requirements, the ACA Ethical Code, cultural humility, professional boundaries, suicide-prevention principles, polyvagal-informed self-regulation strategies, and foundational self-care practices to support personal well-being and prevent burnout. The course also incorporates foundational career readiness by strengthening professional communication skills, cultivating professional identity, and increasing awareness of behavioral health career pathways and expectations.
